1989 560-SEL Radio Seems to power,but no Audio
It seem to work fine but no audio,I thinks its origional,I am afraid to take apart the interior because the car is in mint condition.

Anyone know how to take apart the dash on a 1989 560SEL ?

I will be near my pc,if anyone want to chatt about Mercedes , I will be glad to hear from you .I am always near my PC

I would suggest checking out the speakers itself. If they are fine, then my guess is that the factory amps croaked. They are found behind the rear seats.

Another idea for consideration if the radio operation seems normal.. for instance if the frequency registers on the readout rather than just a line of dashes ( - - - - - - - - ) would be power to the amps..

Hey Jason we have the exact same car!!!

Well times have changed. I don't expect to take my car to any concousre meet, so I decided to change it. You can remove the unit and install a CD/MP3 player. You can also have a head unit that plays XM radio. This is a very easy procedure and most din chassis radios fit perfectly inside.

To remove the radio requires you to remove the ash tray inside the chrome piece. Inside you will find two phillps screws take them out and be careful not to drop them! Give the frame of the ash tray a tug outword. Then disconnect the 12v to the cigarette lighter. Now reach under the radio and try to give it a push and she should pop out.


By the time you take to find a used amp and install it you can have your "new" player installed free at most audio stores.
