parcel shelf / hat rack / rear deck

what is the biggest speaker size MB put in to the rear decks? and what year was it made?

I'm looking at buying a rear deck from a later 126 than mine (82') for the purpose of dye-ing and upgrading the speakers...

Thanks

Kris

Also, If it do this, I will have a pair of perfectly good Polk DB420 (4x6") I can either sell them or modifify them to go somewher else in the car..but where? I still have my stock fronts I believe they are 3 or 3.5"

RE: parcel shelf / hat rack / rear deck

the one im looking at is from a 560 manuf. in 90 so its either a 90 or a 91.
Here are some pictures:

What size would a 90-91 560 rear deck take? I've heard 6 or 6.5 but Circuit City's site says 5.25??

Do you guys think the shelf is in good condition, I plan on dye-ing it to match my Brazil interior.

Suggestions? Comments?

Also, you think i could remove that mount for the 3rd tail light? I dont have one nor want one.

Thanks

Kris

RE: parcel shelf / hat rack / rear deck

The rear speakers from my 1990 560 SEC with the original Becker installation had 16cm speakers, which translates into approx. 6.5".

However, whether any particular 6.5" speaker will fit depends on the depth and size of the magnet. If the drivers are too wide or deep, the speaker may not fit without some modification to the setup.
