My window sticker (below) lists 'Limited-Slip Differential' as one of the standard features on the SEC. The vehicle data card & body plate will show a 211 code for 'Automatic locking differential (ASD)'.
I've just posted all the codes I could find the other day, so it will be easy to determine from the body plate what one's car has or had originally. http://www.mbnz.org/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1201466
I think there may be a tag near the fill plug on the diff. itself as well?
I'm not really that familiar with the various models, I'm just working on getting to know mine real well.
I was thinking of going that route, buying a 1991 560SEL and putting it in my car, but it will require too much modification, if your car was pre-1986. The rear sub-frame in the 1985 SEL's are different because they had "anti-swat". The half-shafts are popped into place, and the 1986-1991 shafts were bolted to the flange. Also, I think the rear center mount was offset in the 560's. My differential had one rubber mount in the back and 4-stud and bolts on the top of the differential, I think the 560's just had two bolts on sides. Does any body know the number to Performances in Canada, maybe they have some? Who brought out Beverly Hills Motoring in CA? I wonder if he has any old stock?
