I am looking at an 86 300SDL with 222K miles. Condition is clean with average wear inside. Exterior is original with no rust and just a couple of parking lot blemishes. AC does not work. I haven't driven it yet. The guy wants $4900. He said his Mercedes mechanic would repair the AC for $1400. I would of course bring it to a mechanic before buying it.
Is this a reasonable asking price assuming no real big surprises?
Yea..I agree with the rest of the guys $4900 sounds way to high. With A/c broke I'd say $2500 to $3000.If he had all service records of Motor and trans and the A/C worked I might throw $4000 at him. Just my 2cent...[]
One more bit of info worth noting, that is the first casting of the 603 (i Think that's the motor #) head which is Very prone to cracking. Bare heads run about 2K. Ask if the head has ever been replaced...
Thanks so much for your responses.
The biggest problem I'm facing here in Calif. is that there are lots of Mercedes around but prices are all over the map.
Oddly 123 diesels are in the same price range or even higher than the 126. [?]
I have a 85 sd. I put a G.M. compressor in mine and had it changed over to the new coolant. Not much hassle at all and a LOT cheaper. Got all the stuff I needed at a local wrecker.
