I have a '90 560 SEL, great running car. It starts right up on any given morning. After it is hot and turned off, then restarted, it has some throttle lag. It takes a minute or so before it can take off again. If I try to get going, it is laggy and sputtery and then it kicks into life after a 1/4 mile or so. If I let it run for a few minutes before taking off, this also "solves" the problem. Fuel filter is new, air filter is clean, throttle body may be in need of cleaning. what else!? Thanks for the time....
Goody
PS once it is running, it runs really well, no worries.
Please review my posts regarding an identical problem with my '89 420SEL. After replacing Plugs, injectors, oxygen sensor, it turned out to be the Fuel Distributor. It was not diagnosed earlier as I had replaced it 3 months prior, however, it was rebuilt. Once it was replaced with another rebuilt unit [under warranty] car ran great, now same problem a few weeks later. This is an expensive part that is why I went with a refurb., now I am not sure how they will hanedle it a second time.
I would question whether the distributor was really the problem. If it were, what could possibly be going wrong so quickly? Did you ever ascertain what part of the distributor was failing? I tend to suspect that something else may be wrong and the distributor may be masking it. Obviously I have no proof, but I can't imagine why it would be so touchy, especially for such an expensive part.
thanks for the quick response. I drove it today and it did happen again after I filled with fuel. I revved it a little and then it took off as proper. I figure I will get to my mechanic and show him the diagrams you sent off to me, thanks again.
Mine has now been diagnosed as a leak in the manifold and about to undergo a <=$1000 manifold replacement.
