Can anyone explain the best and quickest way to remove the following wood trim 1990 420 SEL?:
Climate Control Piece
Long horizontal dash board pieces
Door Pieces
I have removed the piece by the shifter and the piece on the ashtray and refinished them natural, and I am very pleased. However, I need to know how to get the other pieces off.
A note that may be helpful to others, is that I used a heat gun and razor scraper and the old cracked varnish came right off, leaving the nice veneer wood grain. Careful scraping though, use enough heat to soften (so you don't gouge), but not so much that you burn your wood.
to get the center a/c panel one: need to : remove the ashtray, then the radio. Above the top of where the radio was you will find two screws. remove and then you gotta shimmy that wood piece a little bit down to get the top of it to get under the dashand voila it'll come out.

You don't want to know! THe 3 dash trim parts (no HAAC or trans shift surr.) is 700+ dollars..
Google Heritage Wood Works, that guy does Amazing work for reasonable amounts of $$!
I think his name is Drew..
Those pieces of dash trim are a b*tch to get off.
I wouldn't even try it. That veneer is bonded to an aluminum backing with studs attached. You need to go under the dash and remove the nuts from the studs. problem is, EVERYTHING is in the way: wiring, vents, structure etc.
Friend of mine is a Benz dealer tech, he told me the guys in the shop hate doing that job. All that work for a couple of pieces of trim...
The door pieces are do-able. The door panels must come off, then you can get to the back of the trim and remove the clips.
