Ok this may seem like a stupid pointless post but i am very curious. My friend has an 86 BMW 635Csi. It has a inline-6. He is in the process of fixing it 9mechanically it is in great condition) up and he suggested we take it to this abandoned airstrip close to where we live to see what she can really do. My question is will a 560SEL be competitive if i decide to race him? I saw twitch's movie and that really opened my eyes to what this car really is capable of but i have seen my friends car as well and it can really go.
-Thanks guys!
Should be fairly close, but he'll definitly win if you decide to do anything but a straight line. If he has a 5spd he'd likely beat you in acceleration too, but if he's got an auto you've got a good chance. And if one of you has a euro-spec car that will win.
I think you've easily got him beat top end though. At the very least you won't embarrass yourself.
good news jamison! youve got him beat before the engines are even turned on!
because you own a mercedes benz and they are superior in every conciveable way shape and form.[}:)]hah
i always thought autos were better suited for drag, i know people can shift pretty fast, but i think the robot transmission shifts un-humanly fast...
anyways, if you want to take him for sure, get in touch with superchargedsec, hes undoubtedly got the keys to the fastest w126, he can set you up with the golden parts list that turns our tanks into rockets[;)]
Some modern performance automatics are truly "un-humanly fast" but ours definitely isn't. I'd have to say it is the slowest automatic i have ever driven. I have over-revved (thank goodness for fuel cutoff) many times because it was waiting to shift.
Autos draw more horsepower than manual transmissions do, usually around 5-10% at the wheels. So they're slower unless the person shifting the manual is really bad.
Interesting.
I happen to have a 560SEL AND a 635CSi...
In stock form, the 6er is a slug. 3450 lb car with 187hp 3.5L 8.0CR single cam engine . Euros have a little bit more power, 210hp to be exact and the M6 has 268hp, I think it was. Anyhow, the car really is a slug in stock form. However, this car is really detuned from the factory, but that also means there is a bit of potential. Simply by chipping the ECU, the hp jumps 20-40 hp and torque jumps 20-30 ft-lbs, depending on model year. Other popular power mods include changing final drive, cam swap, head swap to latter model head (has bigger valves), ported exhaust manifold, MAF coversion, bored throttle body, K&N filter, and exhaust. I've done most of the mods mentioned, and more, but my car still looks stock. None of the mods you can tell just by looking at the car itself, with the exception of the last few. So beware - the 6er has been dubbed a "wolf in sheepskin" for a reason. Let us know how the battle goes...
Found out the BMW is an auto. My other friend is going to bring his 2004 volve s60 too! WOW!![:0]Now i dont have any doubt that the volve will smoke the bimmer like a cheap cigarette, but will my future car be able to? we will wait and see.
thanks guys!
