Considering W126 - What should I know?

Hi all,

I'm considering a W126, either a 560SEL or 560SEC, as a replacement for my 2002 BMW 330i. I love the 330, and will probably get the next generation comes out, but will have to return my current model to BMW before the next version is available.

I've always been fascinated by the big Merc, and think I will choose a W126 as a gap car (and maybe longer if I love it as much as I think I will). I've always loved German cars, and have had my share of various older Germans. In addition to my 330i, I have a 1976 BMW 2002 in the garage for summer fun.

Where can I find a list of common things I should look for when purchasing one of these cars (besides service records, general condition, etc.)? I'm pretty good at buying used cars, but I know the 560 range is complicated technically, and thus could use any specific tips available.

I last drove a 560SEL when I was 18 (a friends parent's car), and to this day I still remember the effortless power and the exceptional build quality. Any tips you could pass on to a potential new owner, or a web site with FAQ's, I would very much appreciate.

All the best,

Gavin

All I can say to you is GET IT. My 500 SEC is my first German car and I love it. I believe you will not be disappointed in your purchase. [:)][:D]
