Excellent Twitch. That's awesome. Now that I see them up close together, I have to say the only model that doesn't seem to fit in is the W220. It lacks that old "boxy" S tradition. It is amazing how much the W126 looks like the W140 and how much the W116 looks like the W126.

Like I said before, the W220 just doesn't seem to fit as well with that crowd of S's. Too aerodynamic, I guess[?]

I can't help myself either. I don't think the 300SE LWB existed until 1963.

My dad had one of them, a 1965, and it was a fabulous car. It was a very complex car but fabulous to drive. 80 mph drove like 40. The brakes were fantastic. It was far ahead of its' time, IMHO. (maybe they all are!)

Dunno, really, really looks like my dash in my W126[?]

As for the 300SE(W116) I might be wrong, but I got it from Mercedes-Benz Official site. Mercedes-Benz must be wrong then:p

If we are into nitpicking, then that 1979 126 dash is wrong.

Unless I am mistaken, that looks like the dash cluster of a W107.
The W126 dash is correct. Definitely. I just don't like the interior colored wheel. That suits the newer cars(like my E420) because the dashboard is the same color as the wheel itself. It clashes badly.

The W116 dash cluster is what would be found in the R107. The W126 dash cluster is similar to a W201, W124, R129, W140, W202, W210,(gawd there are so many to list) etc. Until about '00 all dash clusters looked really similar.

i think thats neat,

my favorite pic is the one with the 61 and the 98 at a 90 degree angle to each other.

i think the 220 fits, as much as the 186. when you see them all lined up you kinda get the effect of an evolution, though it does seem to be missing a link between the 140 and the 220, and looks to skip about 4 between the 1951 and the 1961.

i wish mercedes would have gotten all the same color, like all silver would have been alot more effective i think, its not like they couldnt have done it.

but nice job twitch, thanks for taking the time to put those up [^]

Thanks Twitch,

In my opinion the 220 has always looked like a bloated Mazda, such average ho-hum styling.

The 140 was the last truely classic styled S-class but as little as I've driven one, a few hundred miles, I still feel the 126 has a better road feel to it.

nice photo but mercedes forgot one S-Class !!!! the W108/109 (250 S/SE, 280 S/SE/SEL 3.5, 4.5, and 300 SE/SEL 3.5, 4.5, 6.3) 1965/1972, just before the W116 280 S to 450 SEL 6.9.
in the past mercedes make the same serie of photos in each serie they forgot one serie!!! Why? i dont know!

this is my W109 300 SEL 3.5 (1970)
