Just joined this forum, it seems really good. I have always had thing for the W126 cars, when a reasonable 1985 Brabus bodied 380SE came up for sale cheap with only 153,000 km on it, full service records, one owner, etc. I guess it was fate.
I also have an 84 380 SL, a friend working at a local dealer spotted it when it came in as a trade, as near as I can tell, the hard top has never been off.
My SE does display one problem my SL doesn't have, it surges at idle when warm. I have heard of an idle control valve going south(thanks to this forum)and have also learned of the idle control computer, which can act up. My question is whether the fact that the car only does it when warm would indicate it is one thing or the other?
I guess I could just clean or replace the valve, and if that does not work I can look at the computer.

John,
...start with the small stuff first!! Check your vacuum hoses, fuel accumulator, fuel pump check valve, idle control valve, or over-load protection relay. These parts tend to cause big problems when dealing with warm idle surges. In my case, I had to replaced my fuel accumulator & idle control valve to stop my warm idle surge. The idle control was stuck open, and the fuel accumulator wasn't holding any pressure in the fuel lines. Good-luck!!
