Sounds like the reverse clutches are shot. Not an uncommon thing. Depending on the overall condition of the trans and the miles it may be time for a rebuild. If you choose to do just the reverse clutch pack like I did there is also an updated front pump that should be replaced while your in there. Since the reverse clutch pack is at the front of the trans it is not too bad a job for a DIY'er if your so inclined.

Have you tried a forum search? The archive has a wealth of information.

Please click 'User CP' on the top tool bar, and complete your profile with a location and model of your car.
It makes it easier for members to offer advice. MB produced different, and region / Country specific versions of our cars.

Welcome, to take advantage of all the forum features, please re visit the 'Welcome to the Forum' tutorial sticky on top of the W126 page, as well as the two DIY stickies.
It will show how to search the forum (3 words min.), and has a link to the Russian MB site where you can run a VIN#.
Cheers

Try jacking up the car and turm the rear wheel in reverse. Might be a sticking E-brake after all.

Reverse is the weak link in these boxes...how many miles on your car? I just pulled apart a 722.3 w/ 60K on the clock and the reverse clutches were all but spent..

One of the mods we do is not only adding clutches/steels to the K1/K2 but also to the reverse pack in an effort to help it last.
