Drip Drip Drip from Rear... what is it?

Took car on a 30 min drive, and when I got out I saw some white frothy liquid dripping verrrry slowly from a small metal box just in front of the spare tire well. Checked my SLS fluid reservoir and it is an inch or so low. If leaking from this location, any ideas what it is?

My ride is compliant - not to firm or soft. I'm thinking of just refilling the reservoir... the MB dealer identified this back in September, and if its only an inch low, must be a small leak. Would anything make it leak faster (e.g. heavy load)?

You guys are amazing. I don't DIY, but the knowledge I get here makes me an educated customer at my favorite repair shops. Thanks!

small metal box eh? I'm guessing you are referring too the SLS proportioning valve.. They do leak w/ age esp. in northern areas.

Yes, a heavy load should make it leak faster unless the leak is on the low pressure return side..

All of that aside, bank on a replacement..it would really be a shame to have the leak get back one day, lose all your fluid and then be into a pump and a proportioning valve...pricey bits....

Jonathan is correct, it sounds as if the leveling valve is leaking. The frothy fluid is the hydrolic fluid with air in it.

Replace as soon as possible. Parts are outrageous if you let it go.
