Windshield wiper motor?

How many windshield motors are in the 560SEC.

My wifes passenger side wiper stopped working tonight. I am wondering if they have independent motors or if they run off the same motor.

Any tips to why it stopped working. Drivers side works fine.

Thanks in advance

No, they have individual motors. Not sure as to causes from your description, but these are an easy swap-out.

The wiper bleade was sticking. It was apprently making a clunking noise when it reached the base under the hood. It continuted and then simply stuck. Now the wiper will not move at all.

It does not sound like the motor is running. I thought I saw somewhere that it only had one motor not two.

It is a 1990 560SEC

Thanks in advance.

I have just had the same thing happen (yesterday - 300km from home and in pouring rain). Your problem (like mine) is probably a worn out bush in the wiper arm linkage, and one of the arms has become disconnected.
For your reference two photos follow. In the second, you can see the lower arm that in my case has come off. Im hoping the bushes are available!.

I once had the same problem with the bush completely broken off. Took the damn thing to machine shop and have it fabricated so it lasts a million years.

I don't think the bush is available from the stealer, only complete crank assembly plus or minus the motor.

W126 wipers are cool to look at, but hopeless once worn out the wipers will jump and hit each other when coming to park position. I guess this is the result of the overload protection.

You're right kpon - my local dealer has estimated US$650 for the whole assembly, and components are not available.
I'll be looking for a local repairer though - it surely can' be that difficult a fix and I'm in no real hurry. The RainX that I applied to the windscreen glass got us home safely and proved itself effective in a pinch. It will do as well for around town driving in the meantime.

Yeah I've tonight found a local that is dismantling a 420 - will see him tomorrow and haggle. Same advice is maybe your best course of action as well rellascout.

For the benefit of others (rellascout seems to have vaporised): I was able to buy the whole wiper assembly, so installation in my car will be simple as I wont need to re-configure motor to the rack.
The seller was a really friendly guy - and a 126 enthusiast. He accepted my old assembly (c/w crappy rack) and US$equiv 32.50 in exchange.
Nice people own W126's eh!.
