Thanks guys , I'm new to the world of Benz.
Got 118K on a 91. It starts fine but stalls about 10 seconds later.
I checked Idle Speed control valve.A plastic tube runs between the two rubber hoses, but one end of the tube is closed. Is this correct? What gives?.
Hi--The problem is unlikely to be the idle air valve. It is normal for the little plastic cross tube to have one end closed. MB found that the open tube made it too hard for the valve to keep the idle speed down and so closed it. Just the way it is. If the car is starting it probably has enough air. You could disconnect the idle air valve (2-pole connector) which should have the effect of making it idle at about 1300 rpm. If it is starting but dying, it sounds like the cold start valve is getting gas but there is a problem with fuel delivery to the injectors. Get the manual on CD's, cheap from MB now, and read up on the system. Charlie
Also there is a thread today on the exact same subject where problem appears to be intermittent power to fuel pumps, either FPR or fuel pump or wiring.
hello:just a thought went thru same problem with my 560 sel.stalled after engine temp reched 80,degrees.turned out to be fuel pump relay.my brother has a 420sel.so we took his out tried on mine.ditto car runs great..good luck.
