From a practical point of view, if the body has a few blemishes or was repaired, Silver metallic might hide imperfections. For Black you need a very straight and dingless car. Cheerio, Teutone (aka Horst K)
are we talking midnight blue (199 I beleive) or just straight black (040)?
I Really like the look of the siver on coupes..midnight blue on Sedans..haven't seen any coupes in Midnight blue in person yet, but I would Think they look good.
Owning black cars is a bit of a hassle..they're always dirty..and each time I clean one of mine I tell myself I'm never going own another one.
I have the 040 Black on my SEL. It is such a beautiful color on these cars, but I have to agree with Jonathan that they are hard to keep clean. I think the silver would hide a lot more grime. The black also, as mentioned, shows the imperfections in the body a lot more clearly. I wouldn't trade it for anything though. While the midnight blue with cream interior is a great combination, I don't thing it makes quite the same statement as the black with tan.
Black looks the great, but you'll want a silver car the first time you wash it. It hides nothing. Every dust particle, scratch, dent, hair, and drop of water shows up. Other than that, black looks great. More maintenance + more eye appeal. Silver is IMO less appealing but it takes much less maintenance.
It also depends on interior color for what makes best combo. Also current body color; I would always avoid changing colors if possible.
But agree with everyone; both colors look great, silver is classic benz color and hides dirt/imperfections, black classy and elegant and when clean looks awesome.
Black cars left in sunlight become ovens. Silver or white cars are substantially cooler in the summer.
