Having trouble working out proper procedure for headlamp removal
Hey folks,
At the weekend, I found myself cursing and annoyed (expletives deleted, [:(!] lol) because I was unable to work out how to access the wretched H4 headlamps. I tried at first to access them by prying off the eight clips holding the lens in place of the driver’s side after removing the two screws from the top of the lens. However, the lens was obstructed by the side blinker lens, and since I was unable to slide that out, as some posts have indicated, I was finally unable to remove the headlamp lens.
I tried also to lift up the lamp’s clip, hoping to be able to access the bulbs from there, but all I saw were many electrical connections there and I was wary about prying something off there.
Folks, please advise me on how to proceed. (A pictorial would be even greater, if anyone has it – please post it in the DIY section [;)])
Finally, if, as I assume, removing the lens is to clean the inside of the lens – how can I get the lens cover off in the first place? (And how do I get that side blinker lens off?)
RE: Having trouble working out proper procedure for headlamp removal
If by H4 "headlamp" removal you mean replacing the bulb you need not tamper with the clips affixing the lens to the housing. Actually, the procedure is quite simple. From inside the engine compartment merely "unclip" the fastener from the rear of the headlight bucket. You will notice a 3-pronged plug that attaches to the bulb. Remove that connector and depress the chrome retainer to remove the bulb. BE SURE NOT TO TOUCH THE NEW BULB with your bare hands when replacing because the bulb is sensitive to alkalines present on your hands/fingers. Assembly is the reverse of removal. I hope this helps.

On the other hand......if you wish to remove the entire headlamp there are four screws holding it in place. Two each on the top and bottom and if memory serves me correctly, one or perhaps two attaching the wiper motor if so equipped. Also disconnect the obvious pigtail connections.
