Going to the shop this week to service the fuel del. system, now Ive put some new NGK Iridium X's in to make things smoother current gap is .038 anyone running bigger or smaller??
don't think there are many on the board..personally unless you were running Heavy boost I wouldn't bother. that aside on standard plugs I run .042-.044
[These are the wires that Miata Magazine tested in the February 2000 issue. As stated, "The preferred choice for performance was the Racing Beat wires. On a dyno, the wires actually provided 1.5 horsepower. In addition, the acceleration and engine response was crisper than the other wires." AIM uses them exclusively on our Spec Miatas.
ULTRA 8mm Red Hot Ignition Wire Sets utilize silicone rubber for both the 8mm wire insulation and boots, with a minimum rating of 100,000 volts in all areas. The silicone rubber is designed to withstand continuous temperatures ranging from -60 degrees F to +480 degrees F. Brass "screw-together" connectors are double-crimped onto the zinc-clad, stranded copper wire ends to provide absolute contact with no possibility of deterioration. The silicone boots seal watertight at the spark plugs and ignition coil for added protection. A unique design feature seals a wire wound resistor (5000 ohms for street use, 1000 ohms for race use) inside the spark plug terminal to optimize noise suppression and power.
To obtain maximum horsepower gains, while curbing radio interference from your ignition system, we recommend the use of resistor spark plugs with our ULTRA 8mm Street Ignition Wires. To obtain maximum horsepower gains from our ULTRA 8mm Race Ignition Wires, we recommend the use of non-resistor spark plugs (NGK BK6E-11).
NOTE: Some aftermarket "performance" spark plugs have proven to be unacceptable in terms of manufacturing quality; specifically, these plugs develop compression leaks between the porcelain and steel subcomponents causing both premature spark plug boot failure and genuine horsepower losses. For this reason, we strongly encourage the use of the factory recommended spark plugs only.]
Just found out that these are the wires that came with the car, anyone heard of these? Im after opinions.
Sounds like a setup that will Competely F... your ignition. The mercedes ignition baring (again) serious boost is more the adequate.. I saw No performance gain from a Full MSD set up on my black coupe.
Stick w/ the stock set up, just keep it in good/maintained order and you'll have Plenty of spark!
I would double check those Bosch wires w/ an Ohn meter...wouldn't be the first time I had seen a set from them come out of the box w/ a WIDE variance in resistance:-/
well, i'm running a jacobs ignition and i use the MSD 8.5 mm wires. i love them, cause i crimped and cut them myself! i have exactly the length i need, and 2 extras in case on of them melts on my exhaust (like my berus).
BTW, i have had both bosch AND Beru fall apart on me, but i'll be honest, i just grab them by the wire...MSD has a giant boot for you to grab.
i don't think you can use these wires with stock ignition though.
also, i love the NGK iridiums (the regulars, not the X's). but they are WAY to expensive IMHO, so i just use the w9dco and gap them out a lot.
I swear, the Jacobs, MSD and gapped out plugs made a significant difference in response. i can't say i am getting more hp, but it's much more responsive to the gas pedal.
Yea, if you grab any of the by the wire that'll kill em;-)
My black coupe seems just the tinyest bit cripser then my white coupe, but I chalk that up to a 10:1 motor. Having put both cars on my osciliscope the MSD Barely put out anymore juice then the stock coil..rather dissapointing for about 700 in parts:-/
I had a set of Jacobs wires on my Wagon...I don't think the stock iginition bits liked it too much..ate the rotor about 2/3 of the way to Virgina one trip.
Anyone like to purchase a set of good used Jacobs wires for an M103..Lifetime guarantee;-)
