Adjusted the bowden cable and vacuum modulator today. Did a short test drive, and it holds the gears longer, but shifts are softer. Feels great. Gonna go drive on the highway for quite a few miles to do some more fine tuning. Highly recommend this to 300SE owners, everything that makes it a little bit quicker helps.
My 91' 300SE also shifts pretty hard when I'm accelerating quickly. In fact, if I've got the hammer down, I get rubber on the 1-2 shift and sometimes a chirp on the 2-3 shift. I know that can't be good for a 14+ year old car.
I put new flex discs in and it seemed to help a little, but I'm interested in torquing down the shifts.
Where is the Bowden cable? And where is the vacuum modulator. I wouldn't mind doing a little tinkering.
The adjustments are REALLY easy to do, the hard part is taking it for tons of tests drives (long enough for it to heat up so it shifts right) until you find your ideal setting. To adjust the bowden cable, it's just a flick of the wrist. To get to the modulator, you just need a flathead screwdriver to pop the cap off. Don't even need to jack up the car (at least I didn't, and I'm a pretty big guy with big stubby fingers) to get to it. I'll take some pics and post a write up when I get a chance (probably Sunday).
