help on custom subwoofer install....

Hey....I am currently building a custom audio-setup on my car while it sits at the shop, it will consist of Rockford front component speakers, Rockford 6x9 rear 3 ways custom fitted under stock rear deck...3 rockford amps, 1 rockford capacitor...etc.

I will be mounting a 12" Dual-bobine Stage 3 sub.... I want to do a custom enclousure but dont know what is the best place in the trunk to do it...it is going to be a wierd configurations as i will be mounting 3 amps on a custom amp rack under the speaker deck, the capacitor on the side...but i dunno where to put the sub. Im re-doing all my trunk in black and doing a custom job..i woudnt like to loose the "trunk" function and i want my spare to remain there. Thanks. pictures of a setup in a w126 would help.

this shot is b4 the dynamat went in

I have 3 Infinity 12" 300watt rms speakers, 2 boxes (dual, single). Sold one and the amp for a new more powerful amp.

I still have ample space in the trunk if I move the subs against the fuel tank.

So I can only fit 3 dead bodies in the back...its still good.

LOL

RE: help on custom subwoofer install....

How big are your amps?? Also it depends on how big your sub box needs to be, which depends on how much power you want to kick out of it. The best place to have the sub would b next to your amp rack. Are you looking for a professional look or dont you really care? [:)]

RE: help on custom subwoofer install....

im not looking for much change in mine, i ordred a new amp a week ago it should be in tomorrow. I have a Rockford Fosgate Punch 301m, its not very strong, 150watts rms @ 4 ohms x 1

my new amps is a Power Acoutik Plasma Series, 300 watts rms @ 4 ohms x 2. My drivers are 300watts @ 4
ohms each. With maxes at 1200watts

I purchased the system (3 Infinity 12" 300watt rms, 2 boxes (dual, single) and the RF Amp for $275)

I sold the RF and my 3rd 12"
I paid $144 for the new amp.

RE: help on custom subwoofer install....

Its basically three 300rms 2 channel amps. One for the front component system, one for the rear 3 ways, and one bridged for the sub. I am going to use one 12" double-bobine Stage three Rockford sub. I wam looking for a pro-clean look, labor cost is not a problem here in venezuela, i am just concerned for a good configuration that will still let me use my trunk ins some way or another,....

RE: help on custom subwoofer install....

probably mounting everything in the rear deck would be your best bet, some memebers on here have done that: mounted the sub in the rear deck, but I believe it was a special type of sub, free air, or something like that. I would still mount those 3 amps on the panel between the gas tank and the trunk...taking out the panel first of course.

Are you referring to my flickering problem?? Not sure but I don't think that they capacitor is worth it. Mine cost like $129 and for that price I could have just as easily bought an Optima battery and ran it from the trunk. But I have recently upgraded every component in my electrical system so the subs/amps don't give me any problems. I upgraded to a 115 amp Bosch AL129X alternator, which is something that is definently worthwile. I ordered mine from autohausaz.com, and caught them slipping so I got the newly remanufactured Bosch unit for like $175, but after I had spent $150 having my old one rebuilt only a week and half earlier. Also upgraded the wire harness, because after all, the old one didn't work anyway.

RE: help on custom subwoofer install....

so a better alternator fixed it? I was thinking about a capacitor but I dont want to spend 100 on one. Friend of mine said the SAAB alternator from the 80s, i tihnk 115amp, works for the 126 too. He hasnt been able to find any thou. My "dimming" isnt too too bad, we'll see how it is with this new amp thou. If its terrbily bad I might invest in a more powerful alternator. mine a lil 55amp [:0] we'll see...
