I was in grade school when the motor trend stories of the Baby Benz came out and most of my buddies were like WOW! But I was thinking "half the Benz at the same price".
Now there is no replacement for displacement and size does matter in racing. So if your in an AMG, and a small version at that you are probably a giant killer in sleepers clothing.
For us Big tymers who are doing the slow-roll you've got to love having a car that has just as good as an experience sitting in the back as driving it up front.

Oh, NO, I don't have an AMG, I just through some AMG rims on there. Maaaan, a 190 is built like a TANK. It's TRULY a little of the W126 era.

Ummmmnnnn... you didn't miss the part about my W140 S-class parked right out there by the 190, did you?

To use an SLR camera analogy, W126 to me is like a vintage Leica Camera - solid, elegant, and understated. The newer S class cars are like cheap plastic bodied cameras with big blobular handgrips that are indistinguishable from one manufacturer's model to another.
Great analogy! [:)]
The W126 is just so right from a design point of view - form and function blended together in such a subtle, coherent way.
The logical car for me to get after my W126 is a W140 - but I'm not tempted. There are only 2 items from the W140 that I'd like on my W126 to make it better: a 5-speed auto and better sound insulation, but I think I can live without them.

I’m of the opinion that these three cars, 201 124 126, are very similar in build quality and basic design – one should feel quite at home in all three. My preference will be always for the 126 but an 87 300 D or 190 D would make a fine replacement for my 123 D should she ever die. [:)]
