You're in luck, there are a few widebodys here, so you should be getting some help very soon.

Although the place seems a bit shady, the most readily available and cheapest place seems to be nrauto.

RE: Purchased 1982 500 SEC...HELP

I'm not sure if you know what you're getting into. The steel kits, which the factory AMG cars had, are nearly impossible to find, though one sold on Ebay a few months ago for nearly 7k. A fiberglass wide-body kit will set you back about 10k including installation. You'd be better off selling your SEC and purchasing a factory wide-body car with all the newer AMG pieces including 6.0 engine for 25 to 30k in pristine condition.

Damn TIKKET, I didn't know that they were that expensive (though it makes sense),...Purple heart, after reading MRTIKKETs last post I think maybe you should consider "upgrading".

TIKKET is right. actually the steel kits are harder to find than an actual car. other tuners may make a steel kit but i have never heard of one.

keep in mind that the fiberglass kit needs to be attached to the rear steel fender by rivetting or bonding, because of the dissimilar material there may be separation during temperature fluctuations. somebody with body experience can give you better feedback.

everyone knows of NRauto, has anyone actually bought from them?

Considering the cost is getting the kit installed properly, a full respry etc, etc... You'll prob. have around 15K when it's all said and done. And it will be fiberglass, not exactly what I want on my MB in any great quantity.

coolbenzo on ebay finds Sweet AMG's 126's.. You should keep an eye out for him.

Finding correct offset wheels will be almost as fun as finding the steel kit. Just have 'em custom made for $5-6K. Add that to the cost of buying a kit, having it installed, painted to match or painting the whole car and you're looking better off buying an actual AMG car.

RE: Purchased 1982 500 SEC...HELP

Very expensive! Well then without taking any class away from the car, how do I go about setting it apart from other 500SECs? And the car is having trouble in third gear at lower rpm. The ex-owner says he didn't have any problems with the car, but says it sounds like a vacume line. Is there somewere I can purchase a manual that will teach me everything about my car? And what is the differance from the 1982 to the 1984 500 sec? Thanks for the information so far.

I have seen manuals readily available on ebay, and Performance Products, a sponor of this sight has detailed information and an extensive parts list

As for the 82 ton 84 difference I believe the changes to the SEC came in 1986.

and if you want to set it apart look no further than Engle or Cyber's SECs
