My AC works well until I have to accelerate. Then it cuts off and does not come back on. The fan still blows, but the air is not cold. I understand that it's supposed to cutout on acceleration, but why would it not come back on?
I would vote for a slipping belt. If the speed sensor on the back of the compressor detects the slightest slip, it will kick the compressor out. How long since the belt has been changed?
Thank you both for your replies and advice. I believe you're right about the slipping belt because I've noticed a slight chirp during gear changes with the AC on that doesn't happen with it off. I will replace the belt this weekend.
^^^ Pretty much exactly what is happening with my 400E right now: AC goes on/off, chirp when changing gears etc.
PLUS, I can lift the belt off the pulley without much force at all. I'll try to see if I can tighten it (mine has the manual tensioner), but most likely I need the whole tensioner assembly.
