M104 210 ECU in W124?

Does the ECU control anything other than engine management?

Black car's smog pump was removed and throws a CEL.
I wonder if I can just plug a 96 or 97 ECU in since they didn't have Smog's?
The motors are the same, ECU's look the same.

Anyone know of any obvious reasons it wouldn't work?

W210s are all OBD2 cars so that pretty much makes it a different animal vs. the W124.

Check the part numbers on the ECU housing. If the number on the W210 ECU starts with 124 you're golden. If not, I would not dare install it as you might turn your car into a mobile statue.

And all W210 have full smog equipment. Not sure who told you they didn't

As far as i remember, ECU part number doesn't start with 124... For example the ECU on my E220 starts with 001... And same thing for the E280 and E320 also W202, so i think all ECU's in that era starts with 000/001...

I was looking a 96 and it had no smog pump.
I know different pn's, but box and plugs are same.
I think it will swap..

It's an electric clutch type setup? Measure the resistance of the clutch coil and put a resistor across the pins in the plug to the smog pump.

Besides CEL, do they do a visual inspection to see if the smog pump is there?

The pump was grenaded in a box in the trunk.
Have another, but was curious if the later ecu would not detect the change in the O2 sensor since I've heard of others modding the ecu to delete smog pump induced 02

Somehow I doubt a pre obd2 ECU goes to that much effort.

The imobilizer is just a starter lockout on w124, what is it on 210?
And 124 is a function of the separate Becker alarm module.
