my wife's 94 e320 wagon has suddenly started making noise from the general vicinity of the serpentine belt on the drivers(left) side of the engine, like around the water or tandem pump, eek.
last week she had her top hose fail, and lost all her coolant, but she shut the car down before it overheated, she was just putzing around town. we towed it to the shop, it got new hoses. today, when she dropped me off, I heard it as she accelerated away, so just now I started it in the driveway with the hood up, and its chirp-chirpchirpchirp softly at idle, adn if you give it any RPMs it quickly turns into squeeeeeeal.
i replaced this belt and tensioner (new mercedes part) a couple years ago.... but the belt looks good, I don't see any dust or signs of wear or cracking.
so, could the water pump have failed because it briefly ran dry? ugh, these cars use expensive water pumps, don't they ?
