Car makes loud noise when wheels are turned. From reading various forums, seems like the ball joints on my 95 E320 have given up and need to put in new lower control arms. Looking at reputable part sources, seems like Febi is the only aftermarket option and 1/3 the cost of MB. Any thoughts on using Febi?
Anything else I should change while I am tackling the arms? All suspension parts on the car are original as far as I can tell.
Put the Febi branded part at the bottom of a short list. Genuine MB, Lemforder etc etc. If everything on the front suspension is original, replace everything. Miles on the car?
From what I see, everything is original. Car has about 152K miles on it. Lemforder is an option for many parts but for lower control arms, seems like Febi or MB are the only two options at pelican parts and autohaus.
Check FCPeuro and etctuning. Before you spend any money, take the time and minor effort to determine what is making the loud noise. In our DIY sticky, when you scroll down, there is a animated guide for checking the ball joints.
If you go with febi, the Beck Arnley are febi and usually a few bucks cheaper.
Spray some silicone on the sway bar bushings, and check the Swaybar brackets. If noise goes away that's your culprit.
then pull/tug on each part of the front suspension with wheels off ground.
Try to isolate if it is the ball joint, or possibly tie rods/drag link.
If you can record the sound we might recognize it.
