RE: W124 E Class Picture Thread...

is that trunk lid custom. I have recently purchased a 1988 300E and I would love to have a lid like that on my car.

I got my car with the spoiler on it already. Not sure who manufactured it but it was installed when the car was in germany still. Most people either love it or hate it. I didn't like it at first but the look is kinda growing on me now. The original trunk lid was cut and re-shaped for the spoiler to fit like that.

I think that they were available in north america in the late 80's to early 90's for MB as well as many BMW models, but I would need to find an old car and driver magazine for the company name. I also believe that erebuni made them but the quality might have suffered a bit.

I will take some more pics of it when I get a chance.

lol! Yeah they are kinda "old school" but I am digging the look right now. I will probably put some bigger tires on it for now to fill the gap in the rear but long term I want to get some 17" wheels if I can find a staggered set I like.[8D]

Don't get me wrong! I really love those wheels! In fact I'd love to have a set of those particular 1980s Borbets myself! I'm also still looking for pre-1985 OE 15-inchers.

Benzpiece: I really like the headlite mod. Where did you buy them and how was it to install?

That's less of a headlight mod and more of a complete HOOD mod. Someone installed a W126 SEC-like hood conversion made specifically for the W124. (They make one sized for my 190E as well that I'm growing more and more likely to try to go for.) When installed, it covers the foglight portion of the headlights. I THINK that the trunk lid was sold as whole kit as well, not a re-work. Some one put a LOT of money into that conversion back in the day. Clear corners and some modern Benz wheels (AMG, Lorinser, Carlsson, Brabus, you know the names), and that mug is IN there. Even the trunk[;)]
