Oxygen sensor replacement

My mechanic said that I need a new oxygen sensor (rough idle and sometimes rough running after starting).

He said that there is a special tool to remove and or replace the sensor.

Is that true? Anyone did it DYI?

He's probably talking about a socket that has a window on the side for the wiring. Depending on how accessible the O2 sensor is on your car, with just a bit of creativity you may be able to unscrew it with conventional tools. I personally haven't needed any special tools yet to remove O2 sensors.
