E420/E320?

I am looking at 2 '94 E's. A 420 and a 320. Both beautiful and with full service histories. The 420 has ASR and a rear sunshade. They are both the same colour. The 420 is $20,500 and the 320 is $12,900 CDN. Both have just over 110,000 kms.

I really like the 420 but am concerned about fuel costs. I would greatly appreciate any advice/opinions as to which one to buy and which one might have issues.

Thanking you in advance

It depends on how important that extra power is to you. $7600 is a big difference. The 320, with its 4-valves per cyl, dual stage intake manifold, and variable intake cam phasing, makes the most of power (217 HP) and economy (25 mpg hwy). It's nothing to pooh-pooh at. The 320 does have head gasket issues though.

Maintenance will be a little more expensive with the 420. I'd go for the 320, but it's your money

This is what I gathered from the www.fueleconomy.gov website

Mercedes-> E420 E320
Fuel Type: Premium Premium
MPG (city): 18 18
MPG (hwy): 24 23
MPG (comb): 20 20

The E420's pretty fuel efficient for a V-8 I think.

If you could get the E420 for a lower price it is worth it, like others said that is a large gap. The E420 will have more differences than the engine though, burl wood trim and better brakes to name a few.

The E420 wins every time

Yes the E420 is much faster, smoother, and quieter, but the enjoyment of the car will overshadow the fuel consumption. The suspension is different, and new Bilsteins will make the ride superb. P.
