1987 Model 300D Turbo - A/C Problem

I have a problem with the A/C. A leak was found in one of the hoses and condenser and both were replaced. The pressure has been checked since and is good. The problem is the A/C works erratically. Sometimes it blows fairly cold but other times it blows warmer air. In fact, yesterday, I noticed that the first 5-10 miutes the A/C worked OK and then it would just start blowing warmer air. Could this be related to the temperature control unit in the interior of the car malfunctioning? Also, on an older models (1982)300 D there is a mono-control valve on the firewall that sometimes leaks causing temperature fluctionation. Do 87's also have a similar unit and could this be the cause?

Any ideas or advice will be appreciated.
