Yes sir I completely agree! Looks completely different and a lot better.
Soon! when I drove to work today it stayed at 85c the whole time even idling etc . It doesn't make sense to me really when it does overheat.
I don,t see well yours , seems aftermarket? I brought my (just the lens) from Performance Product (now Eckler...) $ 100/piece
This was my favor 300E (sold 2 years ago)
according your profile your car is with 104.980 / 24
3000cm3 with 220 HP, it is correct?
The 300CE with this engine start built September 1989, until July 31 1990. Your data plate on the middle console show like this?

Also do you guys think I should buy 10k HID's for the fog lights?? I have 10k HID's for the Low beams and I just bought blue led T10s for the city lights. Would having another set of HID's be kind of overkill? What's your guys' opinion? I need to buy fog lights eventually because one of the bulbs is burnt. Should I spend the money on HID's? I can get them for $22 at Sonic Electronix.
H1? Im assuming you meant H3 We never really have fog here especially really bad fog. I'm doing it for looks pretty much. I kinda want to use them as running lights but I'm also gonna have the city lights so I don't know.
Also when I wire the city lights into the parking lights. Won't the city lights come on when the low beams are on? I just want them to come on with the parking lights on.
HID's for $22 sounds bogus to me. HID's require a ballast, this typically costs about $100 per bulb.
I'm using Hella Optilux "Extreme Yellow" H3 bulbs in all 3 of my benzes, one is stock US pre-facelift, one is post-facelift, and the last has the Depo 'euro' lights. I like yellow fogs because people don't confuse them for high beams and flash you. true fog lamps have a very sharp horizontal cutoff, and spread a very wide beam, curb to curb. they are meant for driving very slowly on heavily fogged roads where you can barely see the 'fog line' on the right shoulder, but as I drive a lot on twisty mountain lanes, I also use them to help see kamikaze deer on the side of the road....
the post face lift US headlights work just fine IMHO. the Depo Euro lights on my cabrio have a REALLY high 'wedge' on the right side (meant to light the shoulder), when you're on a twisty mountain road, and going around a right turn, such that the oncoming traffic is to your right, they get slammed with high beam grade light from that wedge.
congrats on joining the euro light club. I personally would not drive the car every day with those bezel lamps... horrifying to me. First thing cosmetically I would do to any W124... or w201 for that matter and I would not leave the washers and cleaning equip on either..... unless it was oringinal AMG model just for preservation sake. I went with some DEPO brand lights, made in taiwan but honestly they do not skimp on quality at all, they are heavy duty glass, with the proper 3 adjust knobs on the rear... fog h1, 194 city light, and the low and high beams. Looks very nice. The glass has the directional etching and everything they are very nice. Paid $180 for the set.
Ordered some ricer looking side markers and they were junk! clear/crystal and the lens came off when i was installing.. from the factory glue lmao!!
so I went and ordered matching depo side markers (clear) and it looks nice and fits nice. Not Hella lights or bosch units... but I mean it's my daily driver not my antique show car.
Definitely! Yea I like the quality on these Depos, some people say they're good some say they're bad. I have the clear Depo side markers also (well just one now) I was in a wreck and it destroyed my passanger side. I found a clear corner at a junkyard and it happened to be Bosch. The Bosch lights up a lot more and better than my other Depo corner. It makes it look like the Depo isnt even on! Eventually I'll order another set of clear corners so they'll match perfectly. Thank you!
the depo lights on my 93 cabrio (pre-facelift) were installed by the PO, they only have two knobs, and the one on the inboard side doesn't seem to do anything. I ordered the factory headlight mounting hardware kit, and plan to take them off and take them apart when I have some time and sort out the adjusters, then install them correctly (the plastic 1/4 turn thing on top is missing from both, and they aren't lined up with the holes said thing goes through.. one is not secured at the lower inside point either, so it moves more than it should)
Euro lights make every W124 better. I would also look for some of the trim to get rid of the holes from your headlight wipers. FWIW I have genuine Bosch lights on the 300TE and Depo lights on the 400E and I honestly can't tell the difference between the two aside from some minor fitment issues when I installed them.
I will eventually, not too worried about it now. I'm pretty sure nobody realizes it except us because we know it's there lol. The passanger side was hard to fit for me obviously, because of my wreck. But the driver side went in perfectly.
Because we like this addition, original is important for owner self. Gatorblue cars are excellent. Beside any aftermarket only pulls down the value of the Mercedes.
Actually yours is a rare model - the first year of CE with 104,980.... 300 cm3 with 220 HP, wow... If yours built after September 1 1989
CE is a most sought 124, you see around, nationwide only one (!!) CE is on the market. I am monitoring the market since a years - CE for sale is very seldom.
Still not said about date of manufactured. Just keep the old light, it is easy to convert to an original Bosch. Just need to buy lenses from Eckler Mercedes® Headlight Lens, left, european Version, 124 Chassis, 1986-1993 | 1.305.621.904
Now cost more, $118, but still much better like your aftermarket. Of course need a skill to install (I will help you) but you saw how it,s look on my 1987 300E.
Do you have the maintenance book or some reference ? What color is the interior ? How much mile on ? What is his origin, location (Where from, what region, south, north or there from Kansas???)
Don,t worry about the head job. All this engine facing for it soon or later. The engine great value is the performance, 300 cm3 with high power. Not mentioned the well-established KE Jetronic.
Yea it has maintenance in the book up to 100,000 miles, when it came to Kansas. I believe it came from Detroit, Michigan but I'll have to look again tomorrow. Grey interior and I have 196xxx miles.
note that european headlights have 5 pin connectors, while US cars have 4 pin connectors. you can either get the 5 pin plug shell and move your pins from the old plug shell to the new (the 5th pin is for the park light), or make a 5-to-4 adapter from the proper plugs and pins and short bits of proper gauge wire....
If you happen by a pull your own part yard, pay the entry fee and find any 124 that's there. The tail light plugs are the same as you need to correctly wire up your Euro replacement headlights. If you also run across a 260E that isn't smashed in the front, pull the filler panels from the car. The 260E was a "de-contented" model offered at a lower price than a 300E. Usually no headlight wipers,158 hp motor, no telescopic steering column, MB Text and so on
There are several threads on pin placement for the euro lights you can find with the forum search tool.
Wierd. The maintenance book says I have the 24 valve version, in 2 different places. I didn't think I did. They must've took the 300CE-24 badging off the back and put just 300CE?? Also it came from Detroit Michigan like I thought and came to Kansas in '97. Original owner seemed to have taken good care of it service wise but there's nothing else after an oil change at 124,500 miles in Kansas. 4/18/00
I see. I learned something new about my car today though, I always thought it was the more common 16 valve. Even this is somewhat slow, I can't imagine what the 16v is like LOL
ok, like I said you have the first addition of ever 300 cm3 24 valve engine, they start to install September 1 1989 This was a great news in Germany, instead 179 HP(5500 rpm) the same cm3 powered 220( 6200 rpm)..... Good for you having this maintenance book. Yes, you right the chassis already 124.051, belong model description of 300 CE-24
This model have already intake camshaft timing adjustment, ( suppose to check, still working?) what provide more torque and acceleration.
I owned a 90 300CE for several years. Badged as such. Some very early models were badged 300CE-24. seems most Euro models, sedans, wagons and coupes all had the -24 if optioned with that motor. Only 90-92 CE's and 300SL's had this version of the M104.98. 92 300SEL'S also had this motor but with HFM electronic fuel injection. Look at the tag on your drivers door jam, just below the latch bar and you'll see month/year of manufacture.
Got my city lights hooked up! What do you guys think??
How come when I turn my low beams on the city lights stay on?!? I want the city lights ONLY to come on with the parking lights on, how can I do this? I just T tapped the city light wire into the Grey wire in the corner lights.
