Overheating Problem With 88 300CE

Here is the problem. In normal trffic and stop and go the temperature seems to be fine. Maybe a little hot about 110. The aux fan does kick and seems to work fine. However when the car is turned off for a few minutes and restarted the temp goes to almost pegged out 120. After the car is started the temp will drop back down. Is this normal and will it hurt the engine

Hi Michael

This sounds high to me - my 89 CE hovers at just above 80 normally and then only rises to just above the next mark when idling for a long period or on hot days (I never quite know what the next mark actually represents as a number).

It certainly has never risen close to the redline. You didnt mention if you have checked anything -- things like coolant level, leaks, thermostats etc.. Also, you might want to check the oil - I dont want to alarm you here but when my head gasket was stuffed the temperature did fluctuate quite a bit(on the high side).
I'm not an expert here but a bit more info might be useful.

If it didn't do this prior to the rad replacement, you might want to check if the thermostat is in upside down.
Sounds dumb, but it has happened.
