Racing

Now my 300E is all stock, but has had some major overhauls recently. I saw some "novice" & "amateur" racing opportunities lately, and I was interested to participate.

Can stock 300E's handle and race worth anything? From what I can tell, they have a real nice third gear, and the engines seem to be able to take some revving. I'm running Mobil 1 15W/50, which will keep the engine comforted, even while driving hard, so that should be OK. But, am I forgetting something? How is the suspension do on hard, fast turns?

Sportline

Stock it will roll quite a bit in corners (Check out Greg from Oz's cornering pic from the autotest he did).

On a race track, roll will reduce grip quite a bit and make it a bit rough coming out the corners.

Get yourself a nice little sportline suspension pack or just lower it a bit and add some meaty sway bars.

Will race a lot better.

Tyres are eveything. I saw a test recently between a Ford Mondeo Zetec and a BMW M3. The Ford on the best tyres for it was haster round the track than the BMW on the worst tyres.

Think about that. The right set of tyres for your car can save 3-6 seconds a lap over a 50-60 second lap.

Thats 5% to 10% just for the price of the tyres that suit your car the best. You could spend a fortune on tuning toys and not save that much time.

Good luck and don't prang it into a rice racer Honda Civic, you'd crush them!!
