Variable Valve Timing

I've heard that the 1990 300CE 24v had the variable valve timing technology. Is it true??

M104 engine

The 90 up 300CE (W124) is equipped w/ an Mercedes Benz M104.980 engine which has an output listed @ 228hp. All Mercedes M104 engines from 90-97 utilize variable valve timing.

The M104 engine is plauged in that it leaks like a Harely. [;)][:o)]

Its 228 bhp in the US with Catalytic Converter and crap petrol. Here in Europe we get more power as no cat on the early ones and if you run it on 98 octane 4 star leaded (still available in some countries at a few stations) we get nearer 240bhp

The VVT is hydralic and powered by the engine oil so you know when your running low on oil before the light comes on as you start to loose a bit of mid-range.

Just had the head on mine done. Prior to gasket job, was using 1litre / 1000 miles on an engine with 150,000 miles. It was leaking from the only place it realy does, the front right hand side above the alternator (generator in US?).

Since head job I've done 2,000 miles, and used no oil at all. None..zip...bugger all... not an ounce, litre, pint or milligramme.
