ABS / O2 light / rough idle

The last couple of morning when I start my car it runs rough for 30 seconds or so and the ABS light is on. The O2 light will flash then the idle will smooth out. The OVP relay is new and haven't noticed any battery problems.

Could this be an early indication that it is time for a new O2 sensor?

If anyone else has seen this, I would appreciate any feedback?

Thanks,

Greg

Please Help

Anyone know what happens when an O2 sensor fails? My car start rough, then the O2 light will flash and it smooths out. Any suggestions?

Much appreciated,

Greg

O2 light

Chupper,
It's on the dash two over from the ABS I think. Never seen your "G" before. Is that a non US model? Looks pricey!

Thanks,

When the o2 sensor fails the car is the enrichment system goes into limp mode and enriches the fuel mixture. This is so you can drive the car. It does stress the cat since your running a richer mixture. You'll also fail emissions.

If it smoothes out and the light goes out, I'm thinking that it's electrical and something is causing resistance. I have no idea how to track it down. If your ovp is new it could be the ovp, but I don't recommend replacing anything unless you know for sure. You may want to start with the fuel relay, check for corrosion, and or damage. You can only check the relays by attaching a volt/ohm meter and looking at the values and knowing what they should be. So you may have to go to a well equiped shop or the dealer.

People have been asking to see pics of the 96 G latey! I am surprised! Either way, I'll post them soon. The car will be in a high school homecoming parade this weekend, so I cleaned her all up. Actually the car will represent the "German Club" of the school. There will be 2 G's, the 320, and another person's G500. They will be together to show off the German club. Solid floats if you ask me ;)!

Well, which to drive? The G320 has an extremely solid feel, good to drive... ... even though the 300E will soon hit 300k miles, it is much peppier and also quite fun. Both cars have straight sixes, but the 300E is much smaller, so it has some good pickup. Basically, whatever mood I am in. My 300E has 9 antenna's as well for monitoring several types of transmissions (police, CB, HAM, etc...) so if I want to listen in, I drive the 300E.

I'll get some pics for everyone soon. I'll try to post em tomorrow in a new thread.

P.S. The G320 just hit 170k, its a 96. It still looked pretty nice sitting next to a G500 with less than 40k.
