Parking brake adjustment

I was hearing this light clink clink from the rear wheel. I brought to my mechanic and he did some research and found, thre is a bulletin on MB that W124 needs the parking brake replaced with the kit. Any of you had the similar problem with it? If you did it yourself, is it hard?<br> Thanks for your help.

Re: Parking brake adjustment

Does the clink disappear when you depress the hand brake pedal? If so I wrote about this a few weeks ago and it helped.

Re: Parking brake adjustment

It happens when I am driving and going over road dips and creases on the street. I have adjusted this before once but it is coming back.

Re: Parking brake adjustment

But does this also happen when you depress the hand brake pedal while driving over bumps?

Re: Parking brake adjustment

No, I have not tried that yet. Does it suppose to make difference or what if it doesn't?

Re: Parking brake adjustment

Well if the sounds disappear while driving over bumps with depressed hand brake then I had the same problem and it takes about 20 mins and a few drops of silicone to fix the problem. The hand brake cable goes in the wheel thru a hole, on the other side of the hole (inside) the cable ends in a sort of an actuator (can't really think of how to name it) which is a piece of metal that jumps up during a bumpy ride and falls down against the metal producing the sound. Remove the wheel, remove the metal whatever it is called on which the wheel is fixed (my English is letting me down with this:)) to get inside the system - as if you were to change the hand brake shoes, locate the actuator at 4 o'clock, put some silicone paste underneath the actuator, the silicone will hold the bloody thing and prevent it from clicking. At least this was the source of clicking sounds when going over bumps. Estimated time - 30 minutes. Good luck. In case this was not it, at least you checked how worn your hand brake shoes were:)
