I 've got an '86 300E with 93,000 miles on it. Just today, I noticed that the right turn signal arrow on the dash glows dimly anytime I apply the brakes. (this is at night with the headlites on. Don't know if I could see the dimly lit T/S arrow during the day.)

If the turn signal is operating at the time I step on the brake pedal, it stops flashing and glows dimly. As soon as I take my foot off the brake, it continues flashing. Does this sound like something is trying to get to ground through my turn signal bulb? What would be the best way of troubleshooting this type of problem?

Thanks,

Gary
Actually, I just fixed the problem last night. Here are the symptoms: Yellow 'bad bulb' indicator on dash lights up as soon as reverse is selected when the headlights are on. Prior to that all bulbs functions worked ok; high beams, brake lights, both turn indicators and parking lights.

Once it lit up, using the brake would cause the right T/S indicator to glow dimly. With the right T/S on, it would work normally till the brake was applied, then the T/S lamp would go out and the indicator would stop flashing and reduce to a dim glow.

Here's what I found:

The right rear light cluster has a separate ground wire coming from the plug at the cluster and terminating at a metal tab on the body just inside and under the right tail light. The wire is held in place by a small nut and bolt through an 'eye' terminal on the wire. The bolt was simply a little loose. I tightened it up and everything works perfectly now. Apparently, the voltage was trying to find a ground elsewhere and draining off current.
