Tune Up

I am planning on doing tune up this weekend. I am planning on changing spark plugs (Bosch Platinum 4+), rotor, distributor cap. Do you need to change the spark plug wires also? Wire looks okay to me. What else is involved in regular tune up? Fuel filter?

Re: Tune Up

Don't change the cap & rotor unless they are bad. Ditto for the plug wires. That is unless you don't mind spending $200-$400 for those 3 parts! They typically last 100-150kmi. If they actually are bad, then you should replace them, obviously.

Yes, fuel filters are a good idea too, along with your other regular maintenance (oil every 5k, tranny every 30k, power steering fluid & filter every 30-60k, brake fluid every 2 years, brake hoses every 5-7 years, coolant every 2-3 years, etc)

Re: Getting Wired

While you have things apart, it is a good idea to remove all the plug wires just to inspect them. Look for burned, broken or worn spots.
Also check the wires and connectors for resistance (write the numbers down...) they should all be the same. Probably in the 5K ohm range.
Dave is right (of course..) if it ain't broke, don't spend the big bucks to change it.

Ian P.
