1995 E320 Wagon

We're considering buying a 1995 E 320 wagon (no 4Matic); about 160,000 km (100,000 miles).

It's going to be between $22 and $24000 Canadian (about 15-17 US). The car is a Western car (no salt on the roads means no rust), and has lots of highway miles apparently, as it was driven from Western Canada to Arizona and back several times).

Is this a good price? Thanks in advance.

I was posting on the wrong board.

Re: 1995 E320 Wagon

that is an accurate price for that vehicle.

Make sure the head gasket is not leaking at the right rear; ask if the upper engine wiring harness has ever been replaced. The plastic insulation on the engine wiring (the wires themselves, not the black outer covering) is defective on all 93-95 320s; gets very brittle with age and heat.

Re: 1995 E320 Wagon

Haveing just purchased a similar wagon with fewer miles-

Take the car to a dealer or a good MB tech. Have them go over the car with a fine tooth comb, includeing compression check, cooling system preasure check. Don't let them just put it on a rack and eyeball the car.

$15-16000 US is fair.

Besides the head gasket and wireing harness, I would check the condition of the brakes, flex disk, whether or not the car has a full service history, frequency of oil changes. Talk to a dealer and see if you can run a vin# check to see if any warranty work has been performed.

Better to pay a fair price now for a good car than a bargin price for a car that has not been maintained.

Best,

Ross

Re: 1995 E320 Wagon

One year ago I purchased a 95 E320 sedan with the same kilometers 160. I have put 68,000 kms on this car in the last year. The transmission was repaired for 'flaring ' - very slow to change from second to thid gear, $2300.00Cdn. The interior blower motor plus new Dust Filter was just replaced by MB dealer, $ 948.00Cdn.I have replaced the spark plugs twice and Supressor Plugs, $273.00 Cdn each time. The steering is in need of a new steering gear and related parts, I estimate about $1,000.00 Cdn.I would only buy another if it has been serviced by the letter to the MB service manual. Service not done at regular intervals costs alot later. I hate the down time, especailly because I use the car for business. But,I love to drive this car. For the money, there is nothing like these cars.
