ok , i just purchased a 1986 300e today and i have a couple things that need to be done, brake pads rotated tires, oil change, and transmetion fluid needs to be checked, but everything i start the car, i hear a hissing noise , and feel it vibratining when when its in park, also when outside of the car you can hear a rattle i'm guessing from the radator or something any ideas? thx
Hi

The hissing noise is probably the fan belt (poly v belt). Drop some water on it while its running if the noise goes. Then there you go. If it is that put a little grease on the underside of the belt to lube. I know it sounds crazy but it works and has no side effects.

The viabration may be engine mountings. Does the vehicle have a slight vibe when pulling off?

Hope I have been some help.

i'm not sure about the pulling off, ill check it out l8r but thx for the help 1 more thing about the hissing noise , i'm not postive its the belt , b/c i can hear the hissing all the way in the back near rear tires as well. sorta under neath the car thx.
Hissing: I'd also check the exhaust first. Especially in front of the cat.

Rattle: Mine drove me crazy with this same problem for two years before I finally figured out what it was. On my car, there is a shock absorber looking deal that goes from a bracket on the top front part of the head to the belt tension spring housing. It has a rubber bushing on each end. They had deteriorated and fallen out. So the ends of the shock thing were rattling against it's mounting points. I replaced the shock and bushings, and the noise went away.
