Sure. Your engine will thank you for that. Mobil-1 is great stuff, it is what comes as factory fill in all new Mercedes (in the USA, anyway.) You may want to use the thicker stuff (15W-50) but the 10W-30 or 0W-40 should be OK too.

Believe it or not, Castrol Syntec shows better test results than Mobil 1 in my trade publications.

Any Synthetic is better than conventional oils in my book.

Good Luck,
Edmund
There has been some controversy about Syntec. Something about not using true synthetic base stocks, therefore not being a true synthetic. Also, the 5W-50 variant uses a LOT of viscosity improvers to get such a wide range, and these break down much sooner than oils which don't need as many. I'm not sure about the other weights of Syntec.
Dr. Booth, the MBCA Diesel Tech Advisor (or something like that), tried them and he could tell that the oil was breaking down in under 5kmi - an audible difference, I believe, which consistently went away with the (Syntec) oil change, and vanished completely once he stopped using Syntec in his fleet of MB's.
Anyway, there have been questions raised about Syntec, but zero bad press about Mobil-1, Delvac-1, Amsoil, or RedLine (although the latter 2 are much more expensive.) Well, except the fact that the new 'Tri-Synthetic' Mobil-1 is actually a cheaper version of the original, and given a new name simply for marketing hype. Delvac-1 remained unchanged and is a better diesel oil (higher TBM and TAN, I think.)
I use it in all three of my Mercedes, which are 15-18 years old, and have between 206-235kmi. It works great for me. This is sort of an old wives' tale, because synthetic is more slippery it can make bad seals & gaskets leak faster. But it will NOT create new leaks. If you leak after changing, that just helped you locate a bad seal or gasket! :) I highly doubt you'll have any trouble with your 400E.

Note: If you're burning a lot of oil now, you'll probably burn just as much with synthetic, at 3x the cost. However, there is also the possibility that the synthetic will loosen up the oil control rings and actually reduce consumption. It's worth a try, if it doesn't, you can always switch back. Figure 5-10kmi to see results though. (1-2 oil changes.)
