Riddle me this...145,000 miles and the car runs perfect, except a few months ago it began giving me a difficult time when starting. Cold engine, no gas needed...just turn the key. Warm engine, after it has set for a few minutes, car needs a touch of gas to stay lite. I changed the plugs and checked the compression. Here is what I think. 1)Possible problem with the cold start valve. It may be leaking while the engine is warm. 2)Weak fuel pump causing vapor lock in the fuel line.
What kind of equipment do I need to check out these items, where is the cold start valve and the fuel pump on a 400E, and is there anything else anyone can think of that I need to check?
Thanks.
Re: 1992 400E stalls while starting only when warm.
The cold start valve shouldn't be the problem. Like its name suggest it only comes into use when the engine is cold. The Temperature sensor on the other hand should be checked. Also if there is a leak down it is probabaly occuring at the injectors. The Fuel pump is under the car in a panel forward of the right rear wheel. A good shop should be able to help you check these things....my 2 cents
