Yes, they do contain oil inside. They work
similar to the normal shock absorbers, there
are two chambers and a small hole (valve)
between them. When mount gets compressed, oil
is slowly flowing from one chamber to another.
If you see anything leaking out of mount, it is
dead already - no matter if it is flat yet or not.

Re: Re: Stupid question..but do engine mounts have..

Thanks a LOT Michal K.
I appreciate your help. I know i've been needing a replacement. Is it possible for the oil to come out of the mount and leak onto the frame of the car? I belive this happened in my case, causing me to be scared because of all the oil everywhere!!! I thought it was time for a dreaded head gasket replacement or timing covers were begging to wear thin. Anyway, after looking at the service records for the car from the previos owner, ALL major things had been done!!! The lady spent in excess of $12,000 on the car in maintinence in the last 5 years!!!!-Boy am I lucky!! However, she did get extremely ripped off on everything!!!
Thanks again for the hel, i really appreciate it
-Tony

I don't know how much oil is exactly inside the
mount, but i'm pretty sure that this is more
than just few drops. If there was a major
leak, mount should look pretty collapsed.
Anyway, when you will have the car lifted, do a
visual check for other leaks, 103 engine are
known to leak oil at various points, fortunately,
that's not the thing to worry about unless you are loosing quart per 500 miles or so.
It's good for you that lady 'overinvested' your
car ;)

thanks!

Yep, I'm sure glad she did!!! I had the oil thing checked out when i first got the car, and just recently...i haven't lost a drop of oil since i've had it!!! And when i went to change the oil...i know this is bad, but after 6 months with only 800 miles(now it's every three months, although i rarly put more than 80 miles a week), the oil (Castrol GTX 20/15) was JUST AS GOOD as the new oil i was puting in there!!! I was soo surprised, it was clean, and perfect! Thanks for the help
-tony
