If you want to install the new cd player, there's now plug available for it, but, the instalation is pretty easy, but takes time. You just have to be patient. I own a 88' 300E and it has a speaker fader mounted in the center console(which you have to bypass, because the oem radio only has two speaker channels and uses the external fader to divide the power between the rear and front speakers). The guys at the local MB dealer were kind enough to supply me with a wiring diagram from the factory. It displays all the wiring from the center console, glove box, etc. It help a lot, plus it says which cable is which in the wiring harness from the Bekker radio (which has the security wiring). Just in case let me know what are you planning to do, and if you want I can e-mail or fax you the diagram.

Alex
88' 300E
I had good luck with Crutchfield

www.crutchfield.com

I bought the Blaupunkt Munchen CD head unit
and it came with a free wiring harness adapter.

Now, as for the fader, Alex is right, the factory unit has 2 channels and the factory harness is set up for 2 channels 2 to the fader. However, the fader accepts 2 sets of inputs, and has 2 sets of outputs. Here is what I did.

The harness kit from Crutchfield comes with adapters for all 4 channels, and when you unplug the Becker head unit you will find the speaker plugs for 2 channels (male plugs) If you reach into the dash, you will find 2 more plugs that are connected into 2 female plugs. These female plugs are jumpered into the second set of inputs.

If you disconnect these two, you will have 4 sets of inputs, plug the front channels into the ones that originally went into the radio, and the rears into the plugs you just unplugged. The advantage is that you are now using all 4 channels of the internal amp, according to the tech at Blaupunkt this will not harm the radio in any way as long as you don't connect the left side to the right. (IE rt front to lt rear.)

I know this sounds complicated, but it is pretty clear when you have the wires in front of you.

My cd's sound great, and other then hanging up on me once, I have been very pleased with this stereo.

Craig Amos
