'89 260e - Very High Idle?

I have an extremely high idle: (i) in nuetral = 2000 RPM (ii) in drive = 1400 RPM. The problem is intermittant, and does not seem to be dependent on engine temperature.
I have recently noticed that if I depress the accelerator to the floor before starting, I can 'sometimes' avert the problem.
There are 4 temperature sensors on the head which I have recently replaced. All of the plugs, plug wires, rotor & cap have also been replaced.
I am looking forward to hearings everyone's ideas. Thanks in advance

Re: '89 260e - Very High Idle?

Sorry I accidentaly reposted someones message here is what I intended to send
I had the same problem. Take off the air filter housing and check the idle micro switch on the throttle linkage. This can get very dirty give the whole linkage a good clean and make sure the switch clicks when the gas pedal is up. Ihad to bend the arm on mine VERY SLIGHTLY to make it work every time Tick over should be c.600rpm

Larry,

I have this problem with my '93 300E (2.8). My engine RPM goes up and down, It gets better once I put drive and start driving. But as soon as I stop and switch it to either P or N, starts oscillating again, it goes from 500 to about 2200 rpms. I also feel misfiring once in a while.

Any suggestions ??

Regards,

i also had this problem, but i took it to my mechanic and had him deal with it, and being that it was a few months ago, i forgot what he told me.

if people on the boards cant help you, call your mechanic and let him know whats going on.
