I have to say that for my W124 the exterior paint still look like new (the clear coat is still so shiny), while compare to some of the newer cars (w210, w211 and w204) the finishing paint seems to be chipped very easily. I did some research and it seems that some of the older MB (w124) might be using a single stage paint, and newer cars might be switched to be water "borne" (or water-based?) paint.. few questions:
1. When did MB make the switch to the water-borne painting process?
2. Why did they make such a switch?
3. What would be the best way to better preserve the clear coat (finish coat) of paint on the newer MB to prevent it to fade away? Would frequent waxing helps? Thoughts or comments? Thanks!
