I have a 1986 300e and I bought a used sunroof motor ($40) I took the other one out but it wasn't easy and ended up damaging it to get it out. I can't imagine reinstalling same way. How do I reinstall the cable into the motor? To get it off I took the lock nut off the manual knob and took out the fiber gear and all the parts. I hope there is an easier way. Does the guide tube have to be attached to the top of the motor? Thanks everybody!
I would think you have someone "man the button" while you feed the cable in from the top. That's how I got mine in and out. Do you also have a new tube? some times the tube is all bent up and makes the cable bind and yes the tube should be attached to the motor to guide the cable in. don't attach the cable to the cross bridge just feed the cable "free" then attach it and adjust the roof later.
No problem search the forum, I totally re-built the sunroof in my 90 300CE....it was bad broken '"L brackets" and everything. I had to replace the cable too. But the motor was good!
