I have a thread in here about swapping out my dying 722.4 for a 722.3, but both were from diesel vehicles. Theoretically any of the 722.3 trannies will mount right up, but you may have some challenges with the shift points if the donor is a gasser. There might be some ways to trick it to work.
Thanks. Its' cheaper and easier to source an E320 tranny though I did find a local 95 E300D with 101K but don't have pricing on it yet. Expecting it to be more than I can afford right now and rebuilding myself is right out. Looks like I need to get reading.
The learning curve on these MB transmissions is steep. The likelihood that you'll be in there again fixing something you did incorrectly is extremely high. Bite the bullet and get the tranny with the guarantee.
Rebuilding the tranny isn't a cost option for me right now.
Located a 95 E300D used tranny with 101K on it for $550 or $950 installed with tow. Fair prices. Besides, I'd rather have a good used tranny over a rebuilt - too many bad experiences with rebuilds.
I hear that....but a used tranny is just that...used. If you figure 150K as worst case scenario, you should get some decent mileage out of the 101k unit until its destruction.
Up and running thanks to that used tranny. Gleefully put 500+ trouble free miles on it this weekend.
