I personally, am not a fan of tint. Here in the NW it's not really needed from an interior preservation and heat perspective. I have tint on mine, which was on it when I bought it. When I get the chance, I plan to take it in to have it removed. It is particularly distracting and annoying when driving at night, not so much that it is so dark, but how it reflects interior light obscuring outward vision.
Thanks for all the replies. I've decided I won't be getting tint. If anything I think it may look a little cheesy.
One more thing, thanks to everyone for their information in relation to the wiring harness on W124's. I factored this into my negotiations and was able to get a great deal. The car was actually a Mercedes Benz NSW Club show car and was owned by a fastidious owner. The interior is in impeccable condition.
Their is a slight leak from the engine and my mechanic who specialises in Mercs and BMW's tells me that eventually the head gasket will have to be changed. I also have noticed that when cruising the engine or maybe the tyres which are premium Continentals are making a slight lawnmower type of sound if you know what I mean. Anyone heard of something similar ?
Overall it' a great car. The looks are timeless. Took me a while to get used to the stiff accelerator peddle and that old Mercedes smell. It performs quite well and the M111 is surprisingly quite torquey. I get about 10 litres per 100km in City driving and about 8 on the freeway. Very impressed with the fuel consumption for an 18 year old car.
I'm probably too late, but I like the tint, but only if it's done right and with high quality tint. I have to have tint in all my cars though because my eyes and skin are sensitive to the sun and I hate being hot.
Here's mine with 25% all around. I know it's not a Coupe, but it should give you an idea of what it would look like.

Tinting isn't just for visual effect, it also helps augment the ability of the AC to keep the interior cool, and the 124 needs all the help it can get.
This is the best advice (IMO.)

Tint also protects from improperly adjusted headlights.
Thats if you tint the front windscreen; personally i never had good experience with front tints; maybe becoz it rains 3 months in India and tint makes it hard to see
On the sides, i use 25% Tint; however i am looking for darker as it looks better on a black car
My Vote, Tint

In Australia, Its illegal to tint your windscreen.
In SoCal it is hard to find a car that isn't tinted, but it has to be done professionally to look right. Both of my Benzes are white and the dark windows really improve the look.
