i found my car's water temp was a bit high on my way home and realised that it might be due to low coolant level...
i rang the road assist when i reached home (after about 10 min when the car was running hot) and the guy found where's the problem straight away... it's one of the main hose (inlet i guess?)
although there is no leak from the Al part of the radiator itself, the guy told me that i will still have to replace the whole thing
any suggestion?
I had a leak from the end tank of my radiator where it joins the core (big o ring seals it). I took it to a radiator place to get fixed and they advised me it couldn't be fixed problem with taking those end tanks off is where the metal is folded to join them can fatigue and crack.
i did a quick search on internet and found one who sell Mercedes radiators (not sure if that's OEM or not) and quite expensive (varies from about 350 AUD to 450 AUD) and here's the snapshot i took from the website:
they actually got me: there are 6 different type of radiators all for 86-96's W124 and which one shall I get?:confuse d:
You can't fix it. You need to get a new radiator.
You require only a Behr or Nissans Brand.
Do not get a cheap PRC knockoff radiator, you will have no end of problems.
You can ring MBSpares in Canberra for a new one. around $300.00
You will need to provide your VIN number.
It's a pretty standard Radiator.
I have one exactly the same as yours in my garage - broken neck.
This is generally caused by the wrong type of coolant being used in the system.
The new radiators have a metal collar in them to lessen the chance of the neck breaking.
Do not try and attempt to ruin your car at those high temperatures. You risk doing damage to the head and gasket.
When the car is repaired make sure you run the correct coolant in it.

hey, Thanks for your reply! does the $300 include freight -- i live in Melbourne too (well... actually Geelong :P)
i found this issue when i was waiting at the traffic light when the water temp raise at 80. and after 2 mins drive, it stayed at what's been shown in the picture for another 7 min or so at 60km/h will that cooked the engine?
btw, i am always using the blue coolant (used for merc and bmw?) all the time and i guess the broken neck was due to the old brittle plastic..
