aaahhhhaaaahhh, bet y'all thought i was gonna say something about my tie rods being worn after i replaced my struts. Nope, but that's what happens if you search for it. i was wondering if anyone knew if getting tie rods from a different w124,such as a 400 or 500 or even a te, for my 300e would improve handling. I thought i might check first because my tie rods are pretty worn.
Everything is interchangeable including the tie rods, control arms, bushings etc. The only upgrades are the wagon metal rear end links (sedans are plastic) and sportline bushings. The odd man out is the 4matic cars.
Also everything from a W201/190e/190d is also interchangeable except for the springs. A lot of 190 guys swap W124 V8 springs after they've been cut.
So...
sportline bushings are about the only 'improvement' for handling, huh... excluding stiffer springs, of course.
Bushings would not affect overall ride tho. amiright?
Indeed the "odd man out" is the 4matic wagon. Most everything suspension-wise is different. Different in cost, different in design...even the sway bar with its $85ea ends.
When I go to Autohausaz and look up tie rods for my 92 400E and recently sold 88 300E, I get different part numbers and prices. 300 parts will get killed by the weight of the M119.
EPC/parts.com.....call them and negotiate for shipping fees, as they are often outrageous.
